OTTAWA, CANADA The Micronutrient Initiative (MI) is pleased to be joining the Government of Canada in celebrating International Development Week 2017 from February 5 to 11.

Under the theme of Leave No One Behind: Canada contributes to global goals!, this year’s International Development Week highlights the collective efforts of Canadians to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a special focus on human rights, women’s empowerment and gender equality ― as expressed in a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office.

“International Development Week is an opportunity to reflect on the transformative impact and importance of development assistance,” said MI President and CEO Joel Spicer. “Through its steadfast support and commitment to the most vulnerable people around the world, Canada has become a global nutrition leader. This leadership has made a difference for millions of people around the world by helping them survive and thrive and live healthier, more productive lives. If we truly want to build a better world for all, every human being must have the chance to reach their full potential ― and nutrition is an essential foundation for that. Focussing on ending malnutrition, particularly for women, adolescent girls and children, is a development priority because it is essential for changing the cycle of poverty into a cycle of possibility for future generations. It is also key to reaching many of the SDGs, including those related to gender, poverty, health, education, economic growth and climate change.”

MI is proud to have been working in partnership with Canada for 25 years to improve nutrition for the world’s most vulnerable. Discover some of the highlights of this partnership in our 25th anniversary interactive timeline.
