COPENHAGEN, DENMARK – On May 18, the Micronutrient Initiative (MI) hosted Women’s Nutrition Now: Unlock the power of one billion women and girls, a high-level panel on women and girls’ nutrition as part of the Women Deliver Global Conference.

During this dynamic morning event ― facilitated by Al Jazeera English journalist and host Femi Oke ― Her Excellency Dr. Joyce Banda, former President of Malawi, Gerda Verburg, Coordinator, Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN), and Phyllis Costanza, CEO, UBS Optimus Foundation, talked about the importance of improving nutrition for vulnerable women and girls around the world, and the actions we all need to take in order to make a difference now.

Among the topics that were discussed by panelists were the importance of changing cultural beliefs and traditions that often lead to women eating least and last, the role men and boys can play in solving the issue, and how the private sector can get involved in reducing malnutrition.

The event was also an opportunity for MI to officially launch the Right Start Initiative, a ground-breaking investment platform aiming to reach 100 million women and girls with improved nutrition by 2020 which has received $75 million in anchor funding from the Government of Canada.
