Nutrition International welcomes the Government of Canada’s additional $2 billion investment in the International Assistance Envelope over the next five years. This increase provides greater predictability and transparency, and lays the groundwork for much needed leadership in the fight against global poverty.

Championing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls as well as full spectrum health programming underscores Canada’s commitment to addressing the drivers of inequality, including health, nutrition and education.

With more than 1 billion women and girls suffering from malnutrition and eating last and least in many countries around the world, building on Canada’s leadership in nutrition by rallying other G7 countries will have clear impacts on global efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

“Budget 2018 sends a clear signal that Canada is willing to walk the talk when it comes to putting resources behind the Feminist International Assistance Policy,” said Joel Spicer, President and CEO of Nutrition International. “The world is looking to Canada for leadership and with the G7 Summit around the corner, we will have to carefully consider how to build on areas of comparative advantage. Nutrition is one of those areas.”
