Overview

This paper presents a global overview of the progress in eliminating iodine deficiency disorders through universal salt iodization, including a review of lessons learned. Emerging issues are also discussed, such as the prevalence of iron deficiency disorders in Europe, the role of small salt producers, salt in processed foods and monitoring and data issues.
