Dr. Dylan Walters is a health economist and the Senior Global Portfolio Director of Health Economics and Nutrition Financing at Nutrition International. In this role, he leads a team focused on advancing the strategic use of applied economic research, analysis and innovative modelling tools to inform policy decisions and the provision of nutrition financing. The Health Economics and Nutrition Financing Unit supports governments and multilateral development banks at the district, national and global levels in scaling maternal, child and adolescent nutrition interventions.  

Since joining Nutrition International in 2018, Dylan has spearheaded the development of a suite of online tools used to support evidence-based decision making, including the Cost of Not Breastfeeding Tool (in partnership with Alive & Thrive), the Cost of Inaction Tool and the MMS-Cost Benefit Tool.  

Prior to this, Dylan served as a Nutrition Costing Consultant for the World Bank, where he co-authored the 2017 Global Investment Framework for Nutrition and the Nutrition Investment Case in Afghanistan. He also served as the Senior Project Manager at the SickKids Centre for Global Child Health, where he led the planning, financing and implementation of joint capacity building programs, including the Scaling Up Paediatric Nursing in Ghana strategy. Dylan has also worked with the Copenhagen Consensus, Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research and the Centre for Policy Analysis in Trade and Health. 

Dylan holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Health Economics from the University of Toronto, where his dissertation examined the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of vitamin A fortification of sunflower oil in Tanzania. He also holds a Master’s of Arts in Critical Disability Studies from York University. Dylan has authored over 35 publications in the fields of health and nutrition economics.
