Vancouver, Canada – Nutrition International and Girl Effect hosted an event during the 5th Global Women Deliver Conference on June 4 to celebrate their partnership to improve girls’ nutrition by increasing knowledge and access through technology.

The reception brought together conference participants from a variety of sectors, who heard about how the two organizations are harnessing the power of mobile to improve nutrition for millions of girls through a collaboration launched last year.

With support from Nutrition International, Girl Effect creates evidence-based and age appropriate content on nutrition to be shared through their Springster platform to adolescent girls in Indonesia. The platform gives girls the knowledge and confidence to choose food which gives them energy and power to improve their lives.

Nutrition International’s programs in other countries also benefit from Girl Effect’s expertise through its Technology Enabled Girl Ambassadors (TEGA), a girl-operated mobile based, peer-to-peer research tool that provides accurate, real-time insight into girls’ lives in hard-to-reach communities. This methodology empowers adolescent girls aged 16-24 to conduct interview research within their own communities ― with girls, and others within the community too ― to unlock the open and honest conversations about nutrition that might otherwise be lost or not included when collecting data in traditional ways.

“Our partnership with Girl Effect is special because it is a two-way street of information. While we are helping to ensure that girls have the knowledge and understanding to make informed choices when it comes to their own nutrition, we are also hearing back from them,” said Joel Spicer, President and CEO of Nutrition International.

“By integrating nutrition into new platforms, we can reach girls at the grassroots level and help them understand why good nutrition is essential to allow them to reach their full potential. And when enough girls do this, the world for girls will start to change, and the rest of the world benefits too,” said Girl Effect CEO Jessica Posner Odede.

Throughout the event, guests were invited to discover Girl Effect’s platforms on mobile phones made available to them.
