Outcome Modeling for Nutrition Impact (OMNI) Tool

Nutrition International (NI) delivers low-cost, high-impact interventions designed to improve the nutrition and health for vulnerable people, while maximizing value for investment.

Building on programming experience, NI developed the Outcome Modeling for Nutrition Impact (OMNI) Tool, combining program coverage data with reliable evidence. This tool models health, economic, and other outcomes that result from nutrition programming across multiple interventions.

What is the OMNI Tool?

The OMNI Tool is a nutrition program planning and reporting tool which can be applied to real-life scenarios, enabling decision-makers to steer future program design and strategy to achieve maximum impact.

Using actual coverage data, the OMNI Tool allows impact reporting for current activities. The tool also guides future program planning scenarios, estimating potential impact of select nutrition interventions. With the tool, users can experiment with program strategy and design to identify the greatest opportunity to make the biggest impact.

Who can benefit from use of the OMNI Tool?

The OMNI Tool is designed to help the development community, nutrition and non-nutrition agencies, and donors plan and report impacts of nutrition programming. The tool can guide decision making by on-the-ground program implementers, policy makers, and also provides valuable insights for advocacy efforts.

How does the OMNI Tool work?

The OMNI Tool integrates program coverage data from the field and intervention efficacy values to calculate relevant health impacts. The tool combines evidence, programme coverage data, and NI’s implementation experience. The evidence supporting the OMNI Tool is based on peer-reviewed, population-based and representative studies; the impact modelling is further substantiated by the now completed external review from external public health experts.

With the OMNI Tool, users will be able to enter nutrition-specific intervention program coverage to estimate health outcomes, including:

  • Child deaths averted
  • Anaemia
  • Low birth weight
  • Stunting
  • Neural tube defects
  • Mental impairments

How can I access the OMNI Tool?

The OMNI Tool and supporting training materials will be available summer 2018.

How can I get more information?

NI will be releasing the OMNI Tool at the end of summer 2018.
