Nutrition International welcomes Canada’s commitment to increase funding for women and girls health and rights to $1.4 billion dollars annually by 2023, announced today at Women Deliver. This commitment recognizes the need for urgent action and the lead role Canada intends to play in delivering on the Sustainable Development Goals.
Canada is recognized around the world as a champion for gender equality and sexual reproductive health and rights as well as a leader on women and girl’s health, particularly their nutrition. Good nutrition is the foundation of human development. Without it, the brain will not develop fully, the body will not grow properly and the immune system will not function effectively; creating insurmountable lifelong barriers to health, education and economic growth for over one billion women and girls around the world.
