Accelerating anaemia reduction: A comprehensive framework for action
Overview
Iron deficiency is the most recognized form of anaemia and historically, efforts to address anaemia have focused primarily on its prevention and treatment. However, anaemia is a complex condition, with multiple causes — including nutritional deficiencies, infections, inflammation and other conditions — that require a multisector approach to achieve global targets.
This comprehensive framework presents an integrated strategy to tackle these diverse causes, calling for coordinated actions across sectors to effectively prevent and manage anaemia. As a core member of the Anaemia Action Alliance, Nutrition International contributed two of the four strategic papers that informed this framework, focusing on evidence-based interventions for women, adolescent girls and children.
