Africa

Working closely with local and national governments, and development partners, we are improving health and survival rates of children, adolescents and women across Africa through proven and effective nutrition programs and interventions.

Nutrition International has provided technical assistance to support the African Development Bank’s Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Action Plan across three phases. Now in Phase 3, this support will further accelerate the growth of the Bank’s nutrition-smart investments towards its 2025 goals.

The Integrated Nutrition and Gender Project in Senegal (PINGS) is an innovative, seven-year project that aims to promote a multisectoral and gender-responsive approach for the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of interventions in nutrition, reproductive health and women's economic empowerment in five regions of Senegal, namely Kédougou, Kolda, Kaffrine, Sédhiou and Tambacounda.

Building Rights for Improved Girl's Health in Tanzania (BRIGHT), funded by Global Affairs Canada, is a seven-year integrated adolescent nutrition initiative designed to build agency and empower adolescents (aged 10-19 years) to exercise their sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and nutrition rights using youth-centered, feminist and rights-based approaches in the Tabora region of Tanzania.

Building Rights for Improved Girl’s Health in Tanzania (BRIGHT)

In collaboration with the Government of Nigeria and Bauchi State, Nutrition International is supporting implementation research on the transition from iron and folic acid (IFA) supplementation to multiple micronutrient supplementation (MMS) as part of antenatal care (ANC). The research will develop and test human-centered designed strategies to support the transition and optimize the uptake and adherence of MMS among pregnant women in Nigeria.

Asia

We are making progress in reducing malnutrition in Asia through supplementation and fortification programs, policy development, ongoing education, and innovative approaches to respond to needs.

The Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), Pakistan's primary social safety initiative, has partnered with Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Nutrition International to launch the ‘Social Protection Adolescent Nutrition’ (SOPRAN) project. This one-year pilot initiative, jointly funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), will be implemented in public schools across seven districts nationwide. These include four districts from various provinces and three from regions such as Islamabad Capital Territory, Gilgit Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The project aims to empower adolescent girls as “agents of change” for nutrition in their communities while also supporting their families by enhancing access to fortified wheat flour through local ‘chakkis’ or traditional mills.

Nutrition International, with funding from Quantedge Advancement Initiative, is leading a two-year collaborative initiative to address the nutritional needs of women, children and adolescent girls by improving policies on wheat flour fortification and universal salt iodization.

Bridging the fortification gap in the Philippines

Led by the SickKids Centre for Global Child Health and in partnership with WaterAid Canada and Nutrition International, IGNIT3 will deliver targeted, integrated nutrition, health and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programming to improve nutrition for those who need it most and build sustainable institutional capacity across the continuum of care.

Increase Gains in Nutrition by Integration, Education, Evaluation & Empowerment (IGNIT3)

REACTS-IN will support the strengthening of nutrition and health systems with a focus on the gender dimensions of malnutrition and contributes to achieving the World Health Assembly’s global nutrition targets. The program will implement integrated, multisectoral, evidence-based interventions that will address the key determinants of nutrition, gender inequalities and sexual reproductive health to improve the health and nutrition of women, adolescent girls and children under five in Bangladesh, Kenya, Somalia and Tanzania.
