Overview

Over half of preschool-aged children and about two-thirds of women of reproductive age globally suffer from micronutrient deficiencies with consequences that include anaemia, cognitive delays, weakened immunity and increased risk of birth defects. Food fortification is a proven, cost-effective, intervention to address micronutrient malnutrition without changing people’s dietary habits. This brief provides an overview of Nutrition International’s double fortified salt and rice fortification programs in India and captures the key highlights of the program implementation.
